“Garogosi is a way of seeing and referencing the bigger picture in life. Our work is totemic to the power of nature and our ever-changing landscape.”

Sevan Nigogosian, Founder of Garogosi Glacier Wears

Garogosi is founded upon the principle that CONTRAST DEFINES.

We are not only dedicated to creating unique and luxury pieces of jewellery as wearable sculpture, but to empowering their greater purpose to represent the beauty of one our world’s most beautiful natural phenomena - the glacier.

Garogosi Glacier Wears embody Nature’s contrast. Our pieces capture the monumental beauty of the glacier’s form, while communicating the significance of its fragility.

Our creative heritage is based within art and design. Our Founder, Sev, studied and trained as a sculptor, and we produce our jewellery pieces as wearable art-objects with the intention to communicate their relevance not just aesthetically, but on a wider cultural, historical and social scale.

Garogosi Glacier Wears are geological artefacts: individual and unique fingerprints taken and preserved from the glacier itself, and captured using a precise chemical method developed and refined over many years. It has been imperative to ensure what we now guarantee with every expedition - that no harm from neither heat emission nor chemical residue is caused to the glacier itself - no trace is left, no damage done.

Our jewellery and sculptural pieces physically encapsulate, and thus immortalise, a part of a glacier which can never be retrieved. This distinctive aspect of their form is what we hope will trigger greater awareness and conversation around the negative, unnatural forces of change which occur in glaciers - those inflicted by global warming and climate change.

“I want the jewellery to act as a talking point, to help reconnect people to their environment.”

Our small team of big thinkers work creatively and collaboratively to not only deliver bespoke pieces of wearable art to each of our customers, but to educate and inspire our audiences to discover the power and the purpose behind our world’s glaciers. Our world is changing, yet we want to signify that this should be celebrated and respected, not enforced or pre-cursed by the excesses of industrialism.

“On a micro, perhaps more human level, everyday worries can be quite overpowering. But when referencing and wearing the weight of the glacier fingerprint around your neck or on your hand, one gets a broader sense of the world and important things in life.”

Having shaped our landscape for millennia, our world’s incredible glaciers now shape these extraordinary pieces of wearable art. Our timeless and limited edition items empower the wearer and encapsulate unique and progressive approaches to design, the environment and our cultural heritage.

Kenton Cool: Profile

We were thrilled to have the opportunity to collaborate with world-leading mountaineer, adventurer and motivational speaker, Kenton Cool, on our latest jewellery series - the Everest Collection.

As a global leader in high-altitude climbing and mountaineering, and with a celebrated reputation as a inspiring speaker for business, we were naturally eager to engage with Kenton’s work and join forces in order to energise our passion for adventure, the outdoors, and the importance of celebrating our natural environment.

Kenton’s impressive achievements - including 14 successful climbs of Everest - are evidence of the joy and passion for the mountains which we hope to share with our brand community.

Everest is no mean feat, and one of the world’s most uncompromising, merciless landscapes. From its physical and logistical complexities to the relentless organisation, preparation, equipment and scheduling required, this is a challenge deserving of both wisdom and sincere respect of the dangers involved. What can be achieved, however, is an all-encompassing and endlessly inspiring journey through Nature, and indeed of ourselves.

As the epitome of ‘adventure’, we naturally couldn’t resist a chance to get involved and to collaborate with Kenton on an expedition. Introduced through friends, we began discussions on how we could combine Kenton’s experience and expertise with our creative practice: for us, this presented an incredible opportunity to scale new heights and shared experiences, both literally and artistically.

Since his career as a professional and recognised mountaineer began, Kenton has continued to receive numerous accolades and commendations for his work, both on the mountain and on-stage as a motivational speaker to industry giants.

His partnerships and collaboration with campaigns such as the Olympic Pledge and Everest Triple Crown are a testament to his dedication and sheer love of the outdoors and thirst for adventure - something we share in and are so inspired by at Garogosi.

Check out Kenton’s page, ‘Cool Conversations’ series, and social media accounts to follow on the journey of one of this generation’s greatest adventurers!

Antarctic Ice Shelves (Getty Images), via BBC News 10/08/2020

BBC News (10 August 2020)

Reports on the latest research into Antarctic Ice Shelves are evidencing increasingly precise history and documentation of its ice melting.

25 years of satellite records have been compiled to construct the most detailed history of the continent’s ice platforms and their melting. These formations are floating protrusions of glaciers which flow off and surround the land.

Since 1994, the ice formations have shed approximately 4,000 gigatons - an amount that comes close to being able to fill the American Grand Canyon. This rate of ice melt is excessive of that needed to naturally balance the ice sheet, and while this new research provides key information and advanced detail for analysis, the underlying indicator is the increased rate and effects of climate change…
